There are 2 kinds of people in this country. Those that are awake and aware of the bleak future we face if we don't get off the path to socialism, and those who believe everything will be OK, that America has always pulled itself out of recessions and that the politicians have our best interests at heart. One of the questions I get asked most frequently is "How come so many people don't seem to notice that our country is falling apart?" Well, the answer is simple: "Normalcy bias".
Normalcy bias in a nutshell is the belief that since something hasn't happened before, it never will. It's this mentality that keeps many people from making any emergency preparations, even when a disaster is imminent, such as Hurricane Katrina or Hurricane Sandy. It's much easier to just ignore what's going on, don't get involved and lay low. This "Ostrich Effect" has caused many people to lose their lives throughout history in natural disasters and through atrocities perpetrated by man.
Most of the Jewish population in Nazi Germany chose to ignore what was happening around them as Hitler slowly implemented his program to totally annihilate them. By the time many of them realized what was really happening, they were being marched into a concentration camp. They hadn't personally faced genocide before, so many of them chose to not believe what was happening all around them. Their refusal to open their eyes and react to the laws and restrictions Hitler was placing on them was a classic case of normalcy bias.
Floods and hurricanes are two disasters that claim many more lives than they should. If someone has lived safely in their home for many decades, they may resist the notion that their home could be flooded. Many people have been swept away by swollen rivers because they refused to believe a flood could reach them, and waited until the flood was upon them to grab their most precious belongings. The sheeple will watch hurricane coverage on the news for days, believing they'll be alright, even though the hurricane is bearing down on them. Most have never been through a disaster, so for them, it's not possible for the hurricane to rain death and destruction down on them.
But there is another mindset that many disaster survivors, soldiers, and survivalists adhere to. It's called "situational awareness." Situational awareness is simply the act of knowing what is going on around you and accepting it as fact. People who understand and practice situational awareness are better able to avoid dangerous situations, whether it be in traffic, crowds, disasters or the onset of government tyranny. The simple fact that they are cognizant of their environment and what factors are playing out in it gives them a better chance at survival than people who seem to be "tuned out."
The vast majority of the public has chosen to "tune out", with the result of their apathy and ignorance being a march by our republic toward socialism and eventually totalitarianism. Before there can be any return to the principles of our founding fathers, the American people must first realize that socialism has always failed and is not the answer to all of our problems. For decades, government schools and the entertainment/media complex have insidiously programmed the populace to believe that the collective is more important than the individual.
Until more people wake up and realize that they do matter, and that their personal freedoms are more important than the "needs" of the collective, America will continue to decay from within.
I firmly believe America is heading for an economic collapse, similar to the Great Depression. The wheels have been set in motion for a collapse for some time now, due to the Fed's monetary policy and Big Brother's refusal to let "too big to fail" banks and corporations go under.
America's sheeple will soon have no choice but to wake-up from their entertainment-induced slumber and face the cold harsh reality that has been staring them in the face all along.
It will not be pretty when that happens.
