Well, today as usual, I spent 15 or 20 minutes scanning the international news, the date is November 16, 2012. It appears that Spain is now having protests through the night, and everyone will hear about it tomorrow, and I'm sure it will be in the news cycle especially in Europe for the next week. Then I thought to myself; "why is all this happening?" It seems that people have bought into the utopian concept of socialism, but they are unwilling to help build it.
That is to say; they want to eat the bread, but they don't want to plant, grow, harvest, or bake the wheat to make the bread. In the end, they will be standing in bread lines because of it, no thanks to the government leaders that promised them a false reality to hijack the economic flows of the country for their own power base.
The problem with giving endless gifts and making outrageous promises to populations is that you create an entitlement state, and you bankrupt your nation's treasury in the process. Eventually socialism fails because "you run out of other people's money to spend."
Nigel Farage (Member of the European Parliament) was interviewed for the King World News Blog, (kingworldnews [dot] com) and he stated on November 14, 2012;
"I was actually due to go to the European Parliament today but couldn't get there. No planes, no trains. Ostensibly the strikes are about protests to government austerity. Strikes are now becoming an almost every day feature of life in Europe. If people haven't got hope, through their own directly elected representatives, then all they can do is take to the streets in increasing numbers, and these aren't peaceful strikes"
Of course, I say to Nigel; whose fault is that? It may not be his fault personally perhaps all these promises of socialism were made before his time. But how can the people trust him or any other leader now as those leaders ask for austerity to bring the system back into a realistic place for the economy to move forward? The answer to all this is; "hope is not enough," and even trust isn't enough, people need action, they need to see things moving, economic growth, rebuilding, and watch the wheels turning.
Still, as he mentioned, the wheels will not turn by themselves and they do require people power. Asking for shared sacrifice is going to be very difficult after people have already sacrificed, and the government has reneged on the promises it made, but never should have made in the first place. Indeed I hope you will please consider all this and think on it because it has been a topic of interest at our think tank for quite some time now. I welcome any comments or questions by e-mail.
